USING THE SPACE
Fourth Wall Folkestone is a Community Interest Company. All profits go back into the running of the space and enable us to offer an accessible programme to our community.
We are especially interested in co-producing the programme, learning from others and offering the community a platform by opening up the space for hire to showcase important exhibitions and events that align with our aims and values.
We need to ensure we are financially stable and can cover costs to keep this important resource open to the community, but we also don’t want anyone to feel that money is a barrier, so we offer hire on a sliding scale and consider skill swaps if this can work for us and yourselves.
We recognise the privilege of having a space to share, so we want to keep it active as much as possible. We are able to offer hourly hire outside of the programming which, as well as funding and donations, helps to keep the space alive. We can also offer the space for use by others for exhibitions and other programming which aligns with our aims and values.
For transparency, these figures outline the monthly running costs for Fourth Wall Folkestone:
£530 Rent
£600 Administration
£70 Phone, Internet and Web
£90 Utilities
£90 Consumables and Maintenance
£95 Insurance and Licensing Fees
£125 Accountancy and Software Fees
£1600 MONTHLY TOTAL

Monthly exhibition and event hire is subject to a successful proposal as it will form part of the FWF programming. It can include exhibitions or open studio setups. The space must be open during our core hours 12-4 Fri – Sun, but you are welcome to open more than these hours/days.
Included:
- Half the space (gallery side)
- Some FWF marketing (a page on our website, a mention in our e-newsletter, a post on our Instagram)
Not Included:
- Invigilation / Staffing (can be provided at an additional cost if requested)
Rates:
We offer a sliding scale payment structure based on honesty and trust. You can decide which category you fall into, no questions asked.
- Concession Rate: £800 month
- Cover Our Costs Rate: £1600 month
- Funded / Support Others Rate: £2000 month
- Low / No Income: 60 hour skills swap month (role & dates flexible)

Hourly hires are not part of the FWF programme and can include closed events such as workshops or meetings. They must take place outside of our opening hours (12-4 Fri – Sun).
Included:
- Half the space (usually studio side but dependant on scheduled programming).
Not Included:
- FWF Marketing
- Invigilation / Staffing (can be provided at an additional cost)
Rates:
We offer a sliding scale payment structure based on honesty and trust. You can decide which category you fall into, no questions asked.
- Concession Rate: £10 hour
- Cover Our Costs Rate: £15 hour
- Funded / Support Others Rate: £30 hour
- Low / No Income: 50/50 split of event ticket sales where applicable
