Volunteer At FWF

Ongoing

Many people have approached us over the years about being a volunteer and while we’ve been open to this, we are aware of how important it is to pay people fairly. To ensure everyone was gaining something before we offered it as an option we wanted to make sure we thought this through thoroughly.

We believe there is so much we can offer volunteers in return for their time. We also realise how important it is to accept the help of the community and keep building the space together. Volunteers could make a vital difference to our work.

THE ROLES:

Gallery ASSISTANT

We are looking for lovely, enthusiastic and friendly humans to welcome visitors to FWF, help with general enquiries, perhaps assist with workshops and events and take payments. No experience necessary – we just ask that you are confident in communicating with the public.

If you’d like to:

  • Gain public-facing experience in an exciting, ever changing creative setting.
  • Meet new people and engage with our lovely community.
  • Develop and share your knowledge of art, mental health, community and activism.

If you are:

  • Over the age of 18.
  • Available to work at least one Fri, Sat or Sun per month.
  • Comfortable to work in the space alone (after training).

…then we’d love to connect with you!

In return we can discuss what might be of use to you. For example access to studio space or free places on selected workshops etc. Endless tea and coffee is of course always available and reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Our main opening hours are Fri-Sun, 12-4pm, although events can happen at other times. Availability on at least one of these days per month is essential. The amount of commitment time is flexible and open for discussion.

Deadline: Rolling – apply when is best for you

CURATOR

We are looking for a talented volunteer to assist in all aspects of exhibition planning and management. This might include researching artists and programmes relevant to FWF’s focus, preparing exhibition and event materials, artist liaison, exhibition planning and installation, and general administrative tasks.

Ideally you have had experience planning and managing exhibitions or events, but this is not essential. Transferable skills, enthusiasm and passion are what we are really looking for.

If you’d like…

  • Hands-on curation experience in a non-traditional gallery, open studio, and research space.
  • The opportunity to meet new people and engage with our lovely community.
  • To develop and share your knowledge of art, mental health, community and activism.

If you are…

  • Organised with good timekeeping.
  • Able to work independently where required.
  • Confident with reaching out to artists.
  • Happy to get involved in a little bit of everything.

…then we’d love to hear from you!

This role is on a project-by-project basis.
Support and guidance will be provided throughout.

Deadline: Rolling – apply when is best for you.

FUNDRAISING ASSISTANT

We are looking for organised volunteers who would like to support FWF behind the scenes. You could be involved in assisting with grant applications and proposals, supporting the FWF team in identifying potential new donors, using online fundraising platforms, drafting engaging fundraising appeals and newsletters, tracking donation pledges and preparing reports on fundraising progress and activity. This role could be working on one or all of the fundraising activities depending on your preference/experience.

We ask that you will be confident and happy in promoting FWF’s vision to potential donors and have an enthusiasm for administrative tasks. Any previous fundraising experience would be useful.

This opportunity will offer fundraising experience supporting a non-traditional gallery and research space focused on art, mental health, community and activism.

We currently have two fundraising opportunities available:

General Fundraising Assistant
This is an ongoing role and we are looking for 1 person (or a job share), minimum of 12 hours per month. Hours can be flexible around your needs as it would be mostly remote working, but you will need to work to application deadlines at times.
Deadline: 31st May 2025

Patreon Project
This is an ongoing role but initially, we are looking for someone who can commit the equivalent of 2-3 days (hours are flexible) to set up our Patreon. After this, 1-2 hours every week (hours are flexible and remote) for maintenance.
Deadline: 15th June2025

SOCIAL MEDIA / COMMS / WEBSITE ASSISTANT

We are looking for creative volunteers who can help us in composing engaging content across FWF’s social media platforms and website to promote our events, fundraising initiatives and vision. You could be asked to provide regular assistance with updating FWF’s website, create marketing materials, write press releases/newsletters, and contribute/develop ideas for new content concepts and social media strategies.

We don’t expect someone to be able to support all of these facets! However we do ask that you have excellent communication skills and a big imagination for creative content.

This opportunity will offer you social media, website and/or comms experience in an ever-changing creative, community space.

The amount of commitment time is flexible but ideally you will join us 12 hours a month minimum.

Deadline: Rolling – apply when is best for you.

PHOTOGRAPHERS / VIDEOGRAPHERS

We are looking for brilliant photographers and videographers who can capture our vision and best showcase our exhibitions and events in your own unique and creative style. You will collaborate with the FWF team and artists to represent our space, art and community beautifully by regularly updating photos and film footage of the space for press, website and socials. You could support the documentation of exhibitions and events for the website, socials and reports, as well as catalogue photos of artworks for fundraising events and legacy archives. This role could be working on one of these activities or even as our official photographer/videographer for a period of time depending on your preference.

As such, we asked that you have photography or videography experience and access to your own photography/videography equipment and editing software.

This role will give you the opportunity to meet new people and engage with our lovely community, and support a creative, community space focused on art, mental health, community and activism. All copyright will be to the photographer/videographer, and you will be credited wherever possible and be able to use the images/footage for your own portfolio.

Although events can happen throughout the week, our main opening hours are Fri-Sun, 12-4pm, with exhibition openings typically on Friday evenings once a month, lasting around 3 hours. Availability at exhibition openings would be preferred, but the amount of commitment time is flexible.

Deadline: Rolling – apply when is best for you. You may wish to apply as a regular photographer/videographer or for a particular project, month or event.

TECHNICIANS

We are looking for practical and handy volunteers to help us paint walls, put up shelves – all things DIY really! You might assist with artwork installation and de-installation, fix displays or carry out general building maintenance.

As such, you should be handy with a paintbrush and/or screwdriver!

This role will give you the opportunity to practice and expand your skills and become part of the Fourth Wall community. You will also have creative freedom where possible to add to your portfolio, for example through a window design or mural, if this is of interest.

The amount of commitment time is flexible but ideally you will join us 1-2 days a month. Your name will be added to a pool of volunteers who we will contact when this type of work is needed.

Deadline: Rolling – apply when is best for you.
