PAPER, PENS, ACTION! Saturday 18 November, 11-4pm.
A good film poster is as much a work of art as the movie it promotes. Sadly, many modern film posters have lost any artistic ambitions, and fans are creating their own.
Led by Stephen from Paradiso Folkestone, this is a free drop-in poster making workshop that celebrates the art of the film poster. Create your own poster for a favourite movie or one that currently exists only in your imagination. Put yourself at the centre of your own epic motion picture or use your poster to convey a particular social issue, community interest or something you would like to say about mental health, wellbeing, or personal resilience.
Paper, Pens, Action is family-friendly and open to all, no matter what age or ability. We will have actual film posters on display to inspire and we hope to have some experts dropping in to give guidance and offer feedback.
The workshop is free and donations to Fourth Wall are welcome. Art materials will be provided with the generous support of The Art Haus, Folkestone’s new favourite art supply store. There is no need to book; just turn
up on the day. Space is limited but we will aim to accommodate as many as we
can. Any questions, please email Stephen at paradisofolkestone@gmail.com
The workshop coincides with the BFI season of Powell + Pressburger films in Folkestone. We intend to run a competition for children to create a poster for ‘The Boy Who Turned Yellow’, which is being screened the previous Sunday at the Silver Screen. Create or submit your entry at the workshop on 18th November (the closing date), or in advance by bringing it to Paradiso, 46 The Old High Street. A prize awaits the winning entry in each of two age categories – 10 or under; 11 to 16.
