Online Collage Workshop: Thu 28 Dec, 11am-1pm
Part of Outside the Box. A series of creative activities and events taking place outside of Fourth Wall.
This time of year can be difficult. Social and societal pressures can feel overwhelming, and can often exacerbate existing mental illness. If that is something you can relate to, then we see you.
As the year quietens down, and we head towards that strange time between Christmas and New Year, we’d like to invite you to join us for an online collage workshop.
It’s free to join, you’ll just need a device you can access the internet on and some materials from around your house that you are happy to use. (For example: newspapers, magazines, scrap paper, wrapping paper, coloured paper, tissue paper, packaging materials etc…) We will even share a recipe to make a wheat paste which you can use instead of glue.
Fourth Wall Folkestone has built up a reputation as a place for open discussions around mental health. We’d like to take this safe space online and create a time and a place for people to come together to create from the comfort of their own homes.
For anyone new to Fourth Wall Folkestone, this online session will be a great opportunity to meet Sarah (Director of Fourth Wall) and Ophie (Mixed Media Artist), connect through creativity and gain an insight into the type of space Fourth Wall is. We would love it if you could join us.
How to join in:
~ The online session is free and no booking is necessary.
~ It will be held on Zoom, and the meeting link can be found by clicking HERE. You can join the meeting from 11am on 28 December.
(Find out more about how to join a Zoom meeting. From here, you can also join a test meeting to familiarise yourself with using Zoom.)
~ In advance please gather a selection of materials you can use. For example: newspapers, magazines, scrap paper, wrapping paper, coloured paper, tissue paper, packaging materials like in the image below.
~ If you don’t have scissors then you can tear the materials instead.
~ Glue sticks or similar can be used, but if you’d like to make your own wheat paste, here is the recipe:
- Put 3 tbsp plain flour * into a bowl and gradually stir / whisk room temperature water in until the mixture is runny enough to pour.
- Boil 200 ml water in a saucepan
- Slowly add the runny flour mixture into the boiling water, stirring continuously until thick and smooth.
(This can take anywhere from 2-10 min) - Remove from the heat.
Optional: Stir in 3 Tbsp sugar to make the glue more sticky. 6. Let the mixture cool to room temperature. 7. Strain the paste through a thin sieve or pair of tights to remove lumps. You have made your own paste!!!
Store in the fridge in a sealed container.
For longevity, you can add a little water on top before sealing. Just be sure to pour the water out before using again. Reboiling the paste after each use also helps.
*Note: Gluten free flour will not work.
We can’t wait to collage with you!
This is a free pilot session made possible by the support of our funders Social Enterprise Kent.
