Fourth Wall Folkestone: A Retrospective

08 – 11 Sep 2023

Opening Night: Fri 8 Sep, 7-9pm
Exhibition Continues: Sat 9 – Mon 11 Sep, 12-4pm

To celebrate Fourth Wall Folkestone’s move to a new space and its one year anniversary of becoming a Community Interest Company we are putting together a retrospective to look back on some of the wonderful events, exhibitions and projects that have taken place to date.

This retrospective serves as a reminder of all the fantastic things that have happened so far. It’s all too easy to forge ahead without taking the time to stop and acknowledge your achievements. This exhibition is all about taking stock of what has happened before and embracing what is to come in the future.

A lot has happened since Fourth Wall Folkestone first opened in November 2021 and it would, of course, be impossible to show everything. There have been so many workshops, drop ins, exhibitions and events, so think of this retrospective as just some of Fourth Wall’s highlights. There will be artwork on display, beautiful things to buy, documentation of past projects, information about current projects plus some special happenings dotted across the weekend.

The exhibition will also be an opportunity to look to the future and an invitation for you to help shape this. We’ll have opportunities for feedback and would love to hear your thoughts and ideas on how the space might adapt and grow and what it has meant to you so far.

Finally, the new space affords more flexibility with layout, which at times will give director Sarah Lloyd space to continue her own practice alongside a busy public programme. Her work focuses on all things art and mental health which formulated the roots for Fourth Wall. Having the opportunity to share important work in the field with the community and indeed have them shape and engage with the field, is the core aim of Fourth Wall as an Informal Gallery / Open Studio / Research Space. Sarah will be opening up the studio space and sharing her journey into founding Fourth Wall Folkestone CIC.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our story so far. To those of you who are new here, we are looking forward to meeting and welcoming you!
