We’ve Been Here Before is a research project to look at the queer communities who lived and worked in Kent and Sussex between the wars. Art in Romney Marsh has been working with Folkestone queer artists to look at the Queer creative communities who were painting, writing, composing in the 1920’s for example Virginia Woolf, Ethel Smyth, EF Benson and Henry James. We are excited by the network of LGBQT+ creatives who we have discovered and plan to share an exhibition of new work made as a consequence of this research.
We’ve Been Here Before is an exhibition of paintings, sculpture, video, photography and drawings by Folkestone queer artists. The ideas behind the project are celebratory and a way for us to look at who we have discovered and a range of creative responses to this research.
